
RD FISHING (PNG) Ltd. WHARF DECLARED as CUSTOMS CONTROLLED

It was a momentous event for RD PNG and finally RD FISHING (PNG) LTD. wharf in Vidar, Madang, PNG had been recognized by PNG Customs as PNG Customs Controlled wharf. This declaration and commissioning is a huge boost of our fishing operational efficiency and requirements for incoming /outgoing RD Vessels, Cargo vessels and other merchant ships that is exclusively for RD Fishing operations, where clearances and formalities will be done already at the RD Fishing PNG Vidar wharf, rather than vessels going to Madang Port for clearances.
The simple ceremony held last 17 August 2018 , and was attended by top customs officers in POM headed by John Sam – Assistant Commissioner Trade & Revenue Administration, Mark Rami – Assistant Commissioner Compliance Procedures Division, Gideon Yalu -Director Compliance Northern Regional Operation), Nazila Yalambing -Manager Border Management Section and Ms Vina Kakai Madang PNG Customs Madang.
On attendance also were our local govt authorities from National Fisheries Authorities, the Madang Provincial Police Commander, National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority, National Maritime and Safety Authority, the four clan leaders of Vidar, RD Tuna Canners Executives/Expats and employees, RD Fishing Workers Union.
A PNG customs port manager will be assigned 24/7 at the facility with their onsite office and accommodations provided by the company. Assigned customs officer will cater all the clearances and other formalities at the port for all RD fishing and commercial vessels relative to fishing operations, rather than going to the Madang Port which is far, costly and vessel lose significant days for fishing.

RD Fishing (PNG), Ltd, Arnel M. Gonato – VP- GM was appreciative with all the members of branches of government specially PNG Customs, who had worked along this project. This is reflective of teamwork between the company and the government as partners of developing the country.
The port is now open and big opportunities for RD PNG is seen coming.
